Carpet stain removal is tricky. Care should be taken that the carpet is not damaged in the process of stain removal. You may receive plenty of suggestion on on using homemade stain removers and carpet stain removal. One should remember that sometimes these solutions may damage your carpet more than the stain. A suggestion that may be suited for one type of carpet need not be suitable for other due to the carpet material and colors used.
However, these basic steps taken immediately should help in reducing or in some cases removing the carpet stain completely.
Remove the food, rusts, the solids (pet stains) that have fallen on the carpet by scooping it up with a spoon.
In case of liquid spills like red wines, coffee, tea, inks, blood, nail polish, pet urine etc. remove the excessive spill with the help of a towel.
Never scrub the carpet surface as this might damage the carpet.
Apply warm water, NOT HOT, to the stain and again place the towel over the stain. Repeat this until the stain stops transferring to the towel, blotting paper or cloth, whatever you have used.
Make a soft detergent solution and apply it to the stain. Do not use too much of soap, as it will be difficult to remove the soap from the carpet. Let it stay for a few minutes.
Again, try to soak up as much stain as possible by pressing the towel against it.
Remove the detergent from the carpet using water.
If you removed the stain, vacuum the carpet once it is dry.
If the stain has not been removed completely , it is better to take help of a professional carpet cleaner to remove the stain.
