Commercial carpets vary from residential carpets. The requirements for a commercial carpet are different as the usage of a commercial carpet is very high. They have to undergo continuous stress specially in retail stores and shops.
Along with the aesthetic considerations the fiber type needs to be considered while buying a commercial carpet. A lighter color may look good, but, it requires more maintenance and cleaning.
Synthetic materials like nylon, olefin and recently polyester are preferred in manufacture of commercial carpets given their longer life and better resistance to stains and usage.
Some carpet manufacturers produce only commercial carpets, while the larger ones like Mohawk carpets and Shaw carpets produce both residential as well as commercial carpets.
A commercial carpet is normally heavier than a residential one as it has more pile per square meter, to withstand the continuous strain and stress. This results in them being costlier.
Commercial carpet are categorized into
- Carpets for offices (Medium traffic an usage)
- Carpets for institutions like airports, hospitals, schools etc. (High traffic)
- Carpets for retail outlets, movie theaters etc.(Very high traffic)
- Special carpets for specific areas, like a computer room where anti-static feature is of prime considerations. (Specialized applications)
